Orienting and disorienting foundations of activity: A hierarchy of instruction objectives in conflicting systems
(RESUME)

The author discusses possibilities of merging three approaches to instruction and education: P.Ya. Galperin's theory of orientation as the principal function of the mind; K. Benson's theory of orientation and disorientation as cultural means of personality formation serving opposite ends - the good and the evil; V.A. Lefevre's theory of conflicting structures analyzing formation of the enemy doctrine through instruction. The article analyzes the moral (goal) and cognitive (operational) aspects of disorienting students in the conditions of conflicting objectives and moral sets of participants of social interaction. The author introduces the notion of orientation in the means of another person's orientation and disorientation arguing that its formation is a necessary condition of moral, social and intellectual development of personality.
