A professional foster family as one of the most attractive solutions for orphans in Russia
(RESUME)

The problem of orphans in Russia is acute due to ever increasing numbers of orphans and lack of effective methods of their upbringing. The article looks at the existing alternatives: orphanages, foster families, custodians, children's family homes, professional foster families, discussing their advantages and disadvantages on the basis of data from Russian and foreign studies and concludes that orphanages cause psychological deprivation which later leads to problems of social adjustment.
