Diagnosing a motivational conflict with the help of the pictogram method
(RESUME)

The paper discusses influence of the subject's motivation on the process and outcome of cognitive, namely memory, processes. A study has discovered that subjects with normal memory sometimes display irregularities in reproducing affectively significant stimuli, a phenomenon which cannot be explained by memory regularities proper. The discovered difference in reproduction of neutral and affectively significant stimuli can be explained as effects of motivation. For instance, if a word stimulus belongs to a sense zone connected with the motivational conflict being experienced by the subject, it is reproduced incorrectly. These findings reveal new diagnostic possibilities of the pictogram technique with reference to a subject's current motivational affective conflict.
