The paper presents findings of an empirical study of influence of the quality of the father image in adolescents of different age groups on their emotional well-being and formation of sex-role identity. The data prove that such influence varies in each group depending on the age and sex of the subjects. It has been discovered that emotional well-being and sex-role identity of an adolescent are determined by two factors - existence of a father and quality of the father image. For senior adolescents, for instance, having no father in the family does not negatively affect their masculinity if the adolescent's father image is positive.
