The paper describes studies of the notions "collectivism" and "individualism" in national and world psychology. The hypothesis of horizontal collectivism has been empirically tested in a group of old age pensioners from Rostov-on-the-Don with the help of the cultural values differential technique and factor analysis. The data obtained may be helpful in harmonizing relations between generations.
