Zone of proximal development: A spatial-temporal model
(RESUME)

The study conducted allows differentiation of the child's actual development and secondly, due to the application of the concept of a joint action, broadening of the concept of zone of proximal development by means of including there not only the child's mastering of the operational aspect of an action, but also his gaining awareness of the meaning of an action as being aimed at another person. In L.S. Vygotsky's classical conception the zone of proximal development is determined by the degree of the adult's assistance, such as hints, leading questions etc. The study being described has shown that the assistance is not limited to the above mentioned. It includes mobilization of the child's own activity aimed at mastering a new action. Such parameters of the zone of proximal development as the degree of the adult's assistance, stages in the process of mastering the whole structure of a new action, the level of the child's actual development constitute the main guidelines along which it is possible to conduct research of the zone of proximal development and project its content and structure.
