Kravtsova M. M.
A comparative analysis of moral judgements of primary schoolchildren (1930 and 2000 years)
(RESUME)

The author reproduced in modern conditions the study of children's moral judgements by the method of story telling, conducted by V.S. Merlin and M.F. Khryakov in 1930, and compared the data obtained. Three stories about peers were selected in order to find out which personal qualities were favoured by modern children and how they explained causes of actions performed by the heroes. The stories were adapted to the modern way of life and offered to pupils of the first two grades of Moscow school (aged 6-9). The data show that, just as 70 years ago, the children view fear of punishment and sympathy as the main motives for performing an action. Fear of punishment is less significant for modern children than sympathy.
