The paper analyzes principal approaches to understanding the process of social adaptation and its relation to the creative process; theories explaining the interrelation of creativity and anxiety as a part of the adaptation process; data from foreign studies of the subject; results of cross-cultural study aimed at analyzing the public opinion on creatively gifted children and problems they encounter in the process of adaptation.
