Subject and/or author (on categories of humanitarian psychology)
(RESUME)

The paper is an attempt at establishing a humanitarian psychology on the basis of M.K. Mamardashvili's notion of spiritual organisms. Scientific psychology belongs to one spiritual organism whose generating matrix is the subject-object paradigm of classical philosophical rationalism. Another spiritual organism is linked to the so called Socratic approach whose main idea is a requirement to man to know himself. The author argues that knowing oneself is an existential act based on choice. Existentiality of choice suggests that the researcher should give up the category of "subject" in favor of the category of "author".
