General ability for self-regulation as a factor of subject development
(RESUME)

The author introduces general ability for self-regulation as a specific phenomenon of conscious regulation of activity, as a factor and a criterion in subject development and existence. The notion reflects creativity displayed by a person in initiating interaction with the world on the basis of active mastering of new kinds of activity and social relations. The paper describes objective and subjective characteristics of a developed ability for self-regulation, its main components, as well as conditions helping or inhibiting its development.
