Gender investigations of leadership
(RESUME)

Review of gender investigations of leadership carried out in the USA, Western Europe, Australia and China is presented. 5 theoretical trends explaining presence or absence of gender differences of leaders are analyzed: a) those elaborated in the frames of traditional approaches (cognitivism, behaviorism, freudism), b) those explaining differences between leaders of different gender as manifestation of general gender differences, c) classic conceptions of leadership, that take into consideration gender factor, d) gender theories of leadership per se, e) those connecting leaders' gender disproportion with sex discrimination. 3 types of theories: 1) those considering gender factor as dominating, 2) those giving priority to leader position, 3) admitting both factors as equal), as well as female leadership perspectives are reviewed.
