Modern approaches to the problem of design are analyzed from the point of view of their psychological relevance. Trends in design (functionalism, ecological design) are correlated with trends in phylosophy and psychology. Role of perceptual symbols and stereotypes is discussed, as well as influence of modern technological developments on our perception of functional and esthetic properties of the environment.
