Operation of comparison in speech communication
(RESUME)

The way men use comparisons in verbal communication has been experimentally studied. The subjects were to assess the difference between complicated pictures while describing them. It has been found out that the subjects tend to substitute the task to verbalize the similarity of objects for the initial task to verbalize the difference between them. This substitution may serve as an adequate indicator of the degree of perceived dissimilarity between the objects. Three manners of verbalization are established corresponding to the degree of perceived dissimilarity.
