Apparent movement: phenomenology, determinants, mechanisms
(RESUME)

Early and present-day studies of the apparent (stroboscopic) movement are reviewed with the view to acquaint the readers with basic types of the stroboscopic stimuli, with their parameters, and with the phenomenology of the apparent movement. Besides that the problem of measuring the quality and speed of the apparent movement, and the effect of changes in values of the stroboscopic stimulus parameters on the quality of the movement are discussed. A hypothesis is suggested which explains the phenomenological richness of the apparent movement.
